Following the Star: A calling to obedience

The story of the Magi is one we reflect upon during Three King day, but its message is not confined to a single moment in time. It is a story of obedience, faith, and movement. The Magi did not simply admire the star—they followed it. Step by step, they walked out obedience, trusting that God’s light would lead them exactly where they needed to go.

Don’t just follow the light, but be a reflection.

Following the star required action. The Magi left what was familiar, chose the long road, and continued forward even when the journey was uncertain. Their obedience was not passive—it was lived out. In the same way, our faith is not meant to remain still. Obedience requires movement. It requires us to walk forward when God calls, even when the destination isn’t fully clear.

Our faith was never meant to be hidden. It is meant to be shared, seen, and lived out daily. Jesus is our model for walking through life in obedience to the Father. Everywhere He went, He brought light into dark places through love, compassion, truth, and sacrifice. When we choose obedience—when we choose to follow His leading—we become reflections of that same light.

The journey of the Magi is more than a story of wise men and a star. It is an invitation to walk out obedience in our own lives. It reminds us that encountering Jesus changes us. Once we meet Him, we don’t return the same way we came—we go home by a different path, carrying His light with us.

Being a reflection of the light means allowing our obedience to be visible.

It means loving when it’s hard.

Serving when it’s inconvenient

.Trusting God when the road feels long.

Each act of obedience reflects Christ to the world around us. When we bring light into someone else’s life, we are living out the purpose of His birth. Jesus came as the Light of the world, and when we walk in obedience, His light continues to shine through us.

So follow the star—but don’t stop there.

Walk in obedience.

Live your faith out loud.

Be a reflection of the light that first led you to Him.

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill can not be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand , and it gives light to everyobe in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Matthew 5:14-16
